ResurFX LASER SKIN REJUVENATION

ResurFX laser is one of the newer treatments on the aesthetic market and produces amazing results in helping to rejuvenate the skin and improve its overall appearance. This non-ablative, fractional laser penetrates the skin at a deeper level without harming the outer layers. It is aimed at addressing common skin concerns such as: lines and wrinkles, age spots, loose skin, pigmentation stretch marks and minor scarring such as acne or surgical scars.  These conditions can arise from the natural effects of ageing as the internal structure of the skin loses its youthful properties, and the face starts to look tired.

During the ResurFX laser procedure a handheld device is passed over the skin, scattering tiny beams of light over the complexion. It can be used on the face, neck, hands, chest and body to help resurface the skin and improve its texture and tone. Light energy turns to heat when it targets the lower depths of the dermis, which stimulates the fibrous tissue and encourages the production of new collagen and elastin.

Collagen and elastin are often described as the ‘building blocks’ of the skin’s internal structure, and they are the substances that maintain the smooth, supple and radiant appearance that is typical of one’s youth. Increasing their levels can reduce the look of lines and indentations caused by scarring, as well as lifting and tightening the skin. Skin resurfacing also works to replenish sun damaged skin cells that show on the surface as patches of discoloration – known as pigmentation.

Your expert practitioner may recommend that a course of up to 4 ResurFX laser treatments will be necessary to reach the intended goal. These will need to be performed around 4 weeks apart with the results developing further with each treatment session. The quality and condition of the complexion will continue to improve for up to 6 months after the final procedure, when the expected outcome can be seen.

Frequently asked questions

At R&R we will always need to carry out a pre-treatment consultation before any treatment takes place. Your suitability will be established during this session as we assess your general health, medical history and the extent of your concerns. In cases where a person has not been suitable it is usually because of the following: an active infection is present, the patient is affected by an inflammatory skin condition and certain medications or treatments may cause complications.

As a laser treatment that is non-ablative it does not cause any harm to the surface of the skin. It is therefore considered safe to use, if you are considered to be a suitable candidate.

During the treatment you may feel a slight prickly sensation as the laser is passed over the skin. Most of our patients will agree this is a comfortable feeling and its warmth can be quite soothing. If you are aware that your individual tolerance levels are likely to be low, a numbing cream can be applied to the treatment 20 – 30 minutes beforehand.

Redness and slight swelling are common side effects which have often subsided by the next day. Your practitioner will make you aware that pigmentation, swelling and scarring are other potential complications, but these are rarely experienced.

As a procedure that produces very minor side effects, you should be able to continue with the rest of your day immediately after leaving the clinic.
